14. A Number Of Firsts
This mission was the first time that man had reached the farthest point from Earth in terms of distance. This was also Jack Swigert’s first mission into space,although he had worked as support crew for the Apollo 7. Swigert was the replacement for Mattingly, who had been exposed to the rubella virus.
Apollo 13 was also the lucky number for Fred Haise who had also been a backup for Apollo 8 and Apollo 11. Considering that the two were newbies on this mission,We bet it was a learning experience that was out of this world.
