This may sound unbelievable, but it’s true! Contrary to what our intuition might tell us, time does pass differently for different living creatures. And it all depends on their size and metabolic rate. An experiment done by the Trinity College in Dublin studied the rate at which house flies perceive the flickering of light and were startled by the results.
Their study revealed that flies were able to perceive this flickering up to 4 times faster than humans could. Due to a higher metabolic rate and smaller size, time actually passes slowly for house flies than it does for humans. What this means is that they are able to see everything in slow motion – things that happen at ‘normal’ speed for us.
This might also explain why these flies are so difficult to swat!
