In humans, having body hair mostly serves the purpose of providing protection from cold, as well as cooling us down by trapping sweat during hot weather. However, the hair on a house fly’s legs serves a slightly different, but very important purpose.
Their hairy legs are, in fac full of sensitive cells that act like ‘feelers’. It helps them navigate well and understand the position their legs are in. Additionally, similar to our body hair, it also helps them dissipate heat in warm conditions, giving them more surface area to cool down.
