These Are the 30 Longest Living Animals on Earth

European Eel

#6 European Eel

European Eels have impressive slender bodies with features that are a blend of fish and snakes.

They can live for around 88 years, spending the bulk of their adult lives in freshwater estuaries, streams, and rivers.

However, they take to the oceans to lay eggs. European Eels are highly secretive, burrowing into mud and living under stones. They are nocturnal as well.

European Eels are excellent swimmers as well as strong climbers. Some reports describe these fish leaving the water altogether and climbing into mushy fields to feast on worms and slugs!

Sadly, this species of eel is critically endangered due to a multitude of threats.
