Lake Sturgeon

#23 Lake Sturgeon

As per the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, Lake Sturgeons are remnants of the age of the dinosaurs.

They can live to be 150 years old, with the females having longer lifespans than the males. The oldest one on record is a female Lake Sturgeon aged 152 years.

These huge fish inhabit the freshwater Great Lakes, occurring in the Mississippi drainage basin as well as the Detroit River.

Lake Sturgeons can measure up to 6.5 feet in length and weigh up to 200 lbs.

Unlike other fish, Lake Sturgeons have coarse, rough skin instead of the typical scales.
