#1 African Elephants
The largest animal on land also happens to be amongst the longest living animals, comfortably touching 60 to 70 years of age. African Elephants measure around 8.2 to 13 feet in height at the shoulder and weigh around 2.5 to 7 tons, roughly 14,000 pounds.
African Elephants are slightly larger than their family members in Asia.
There are two species of African Elephants – one lives in the Savanna, while the other prefers forests in West and Central Africa.
Sadly, both species, along with Asian Elephants, are highly endangered. More rigorous efforts need to be exercised for their sake.
