You must have heard of the popular Sablefish, thanks to its highly prized nature in the culinary world.

These fish are remarkably long-lived, commonly living to be 90 years old with the oldest Sablefish reaching 114 years of age.

You may know the Sablefish by the names of Black Cod, Butterfish, or Coalfish. While these fish carry the title of Black Cod, they have no relationship with the Cod family.

Instead, they are one of the only two members of their family, which is Anoplopomatidae. They are the only species in their genus.
