In the 1960’s, the Indian Government conducted manysurveys of the island and the expeditions were led by Mr T.N Pandit, who was afamous anthropologist. He made many visits to the island over the years afterhis first visit in 1967.
Mr Pandit and his team were among the first people whohad a chance to study the natives in their own surroundings. He was alwayscareful to take along presents (more coconuts!) and go with policemen although, the Sentinelese never really welcomed him with open arms. They made sure thattheir weapons were always at hand.
