6. Your Genes Play a Big Role
Studies show that genes play a major role in around 50% of all cases related to depression. If a person has a parent or a sibling with a history of depression, then the risk is as high as two or three times more than for a person without depression.
However, if a male’s either parent has depression, then the odds of getting depressiongo up to 30% as opposed to 12%. Males who have a family history of bipolar illness are likely to go up to around 50-60%. Genetic mutations are believed to be a strong reason behind this and when merged with environmental factors, it is the deciding factor behind whether an individual develops depression over time or not.
