5. Post-Partum Depression is For Real
Giving birth to a baby is a life-changing moment and yet 10-20% of new mothers all over the world experience post-partum depression. If studies are to be believed, pregnant women are at a very high risk of experiencing depression during their term and especially just after giving birth. Science attributes this to the high fluctuations of rising and falling estrogen and progesterone levels in the body.
Depressed expectant mothers tend to give birth earlier than other mothers. Unfortunately, this form of depression often tends to go undiagnosed as it is not discussed openly and new mothers often struggle to understand their rush of emotions including why they don’t feel the same sense of happiness that is expected of them.
