29. Depression Can Cause Weight Gain or Loss
Anti-depressants have been proven to have an effect on weight gain and weight loss from person to person. Many people who suffer from depression may resort to eating food in excess in what is known as comfort eating whereas there are many people who abstain from eating solid food altogether and may only drink liquids.
One of the most disturbing aspects of comfort eating is that people who overeat due to depression may not even pay attention to brain signals that the body sends when one is full. On the other hand, people especially women may also experience depression if they feel insecure about their bodies. Even the slightest weight gain may cause them to experience depression and symptoms for a long period of time.
