11. Depression Can Affect Children
It’s not only adults who often struggle with the many symptoms of depression, children can be badly affected by depression too. One of the biggest concerns doctors have with regard to depression in children is that very often, the parents may not even realize that their child has depression at all! Symptoms such as withdrawal, preference to be alone rather than with friends, poor eye contact etc may be misunderstood to be the traits of an introvert.
Children who are depressed do badly at school, may unnecessarily pick up fights and may even self-harm without the parents noticing at all. It is a sad fact that more than two-thirds of children who have mental health problems often go undiagnosed and do not get the help they need on time.
