Polar Bears Are Invisible To Infrared Cameras

14. Polar Bears Are Invisible To Infrared Cameras

Forget about the invisibility spell cast by Harry Potter; nature has its own magic to show us. Polar bears are born with invisible cloaks that keep them hidden from infrared cameras.

The thermal or infrared cameras detect an object by sensing the heat released by it. Turns out that polar bears have a hollow core in their furs that traps the heat and doesn’t let it out. This keeps them warm and they can survive the harshest cold in the arctic.

Their natural insulators further keep the outer temperature of the furs on par with that of the surroundings. Hence, it becomes impossible for infrared cameras to detect polar bears.
