8. Everything We See Is The Past
Did you know that it takes light around 8 minutes and 20 seconds to reach from the Sun to the Earth. This means that when you look up at the Sun (DON’T look at it directly), you’re actually seeing it in the past – as it was 7 minutes ago?
This also means that if the Sun was to get completely destroyed this moment, then we wouldn’t know anything about it for a full 8 minutes 20 second! Everything we see is thanks to the light reflected by that object, and since light takes time to reach our eyes, we are always seeing things in the past!
