3. A 24-Hour Day?
We all have been told that a day lasts for 24 hours, right? Umm..not quite. The Earth actually takes 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4.2 seconds to rotate on its axis, to be precise! Then how is it 24 hours between sunrise to sunrise?
The reason is that every day, our planet moves slightly further along in its orbit around the sun. Doing this changes its position, leading to a slight lengthening of the day.
