AIDS, or Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome, is a condition that is caused by contracting the HIV virus. It drastically reduces the body’s capacity to fight off infections, and those suffering from it usually succumb to secondary infections because of low immunity.

The HIV virus apparently jumped from chimpanzees to humans sometimes in the 1920s, and adapted itself to thrive in humans. Amongst humans, it is transmitted either through contact with infected blood, or through sexual contact.
