Having a huge whale onboard with its guts out, meat rotting away, and blubber being boiled, can produce a stench that not many can withstand. Unfortunately, out at sea, there is no respite. The ship is constantly in motion, there are fluids on the floor, crewmen are entering the carcass to cut-off extract every part of the animal, this all produces a dismal image of working conditions that not many would voluntarily subject themselves to.
