25. There Was High Wastage Of Whale Meat
While it may sound contradictory, during the olden days there were no methods of refrigeration or preservation. Whalers would go to the sea and travel very far in search of whales, leaving them far away from shore.
Whale derivatives such as whale baleen, blubber, whale oil, etc. were all items that could be kept for longer times but meat rotted quickly and there was a lot of it.
This was one of the reasons that despite there being a demand for whale meat, it could not always be fulfilled and a lot of it was thrown back into the sea.
