Indoor Smoke is a Serious Threat
Indoor smoke can be just as deadly as bad outdoor air quality. Worldwide, 3 billion people use kerosene, coal, or biomass to heat their homes or cook inside. The resulting smoke exposure can be incredibly dangerous and may even lead to premature death.
In 2016, indoor air pollution was responsible for approximately 3.8 million premature deaths. Of those, about 60 percent of them were women and children.
Plus, this smoke contributes to poor outdoor air quality once it makes its way outdoors. This means indoor stoves aren’t just harming a household; they hurt entire communities.
