#8 You Can’t Buy a Car in Japan If You Don’t Have a Parking Space
If you think about buying a car in Japan, you first need to prove that you have some space to park it. To register a car, or when changing addresses, drivers need to get a “parking space certificate” from the local police station.
The rule was initially applied only to the large cities of Japan and was enacted in 1962. And, if you cheat to get your proof-of-parking certificate, where will you put your car?
You can’t park your car on the roads late in the night. Try it, and your car would be lugged within a day or two.
