#5 Ghost Sickness
Everyone enjoys a good horror movie. What if a fixation with ghosts turns extremes? That is the reality of a patient without sickness.
Ghost sickness is a culture-bound syndrome predominantly seen in Native American communities and certain Hispanic cultures.
In this, the sufferers believe that a spirit or ghost has taken over their body, causing a mental state of depression and grief.
Their mental state worsens with fear, hallucinations, anxiety, dizziness, and a feeling of suffocation and danger.
Although rare, if someone does experience ghost sickness, they may have to live with it for the rest of their lives.
The somatic nature of this disorder makes it easier for the sufferer to stay in this terrifying mental state.
