#27 Post-Lunch Sleepiness
Feeling sleepy after lunch is quite common. There are several reasons for us to slip into a siesta just after having lunch. Studies show that certain meals when digested produce a larger amount of insulin, which then triggers the “sleep” hormones in our brain.
Besides, the digestive process consumes high energy to break down the meals, which drains the body and ignites a drowsy feeling. The sleepiness also tends to gear in as the day gradually ripes, and peaks at around 2 p.m. which, for most people, is the lunchtime.
