Cellulose which is extracted from non-toxic wood pulp or cotton is used as a filler in so many food products that we bet you did not know even had them. For example, it’s in shredded cheese, creamy salad dressing, and even in your favorite ice-cream tub.
The reason why cellulose is added so easily to so many processed products is that it has a lot of fiber and helps to thicken the consistency of a liquid or semi-solid without changing the taste or flavor. It’s usually written down as ‘Cellulose Gel’ or ‘Carboxymethyl Cellulose’ on the list of ingredients.
