Lanolin is well known for being a source of Vitamin D and is often used to enhance cereals and improve the nutrient profile. However, lanolin is actually extracted from an oil secreted naturally in sheep’s wool. It is also a common ingredient in the skincare industry.
Chewing gum also contains lanolin because this greasy oil helps to keep the gum soft for longer. It is also used in other types of food to make chewing easier. However, additives such as these are usually clubbed under a rather convenient label like ‘Gum Base’ or ‘Gum Softener’.
