20. Global Emergency
On the 31st of January 2020, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the current coronavirus virus a global emergency. The WHO sounded the alarm when the first case of human to human transmission of the virus was confirmed outside of China.
A global health emergency means that international coordination to combat the outbreak further, with the help of the UN, will take place. Since 2010 there have been four global emergencies including polio in 2014; Ebola outbreak in 2014; Zika in 2016 and then Ebola again in 2019.
